Switching from Trello?
Bring your Trello boards home. Then add the hearts.
Trello is brilliant for work. Kitty Board is a family planner built on the same lists and cards, plus rewards, children's own accounts and a Kitty Jar to save up for real prizes. Move a board across in about two minutes, with your lists, cards, checklists and comments intact.
Free to import on every plan. Your Trello file is read on your device and never uploaded: only the boards you bring in are saved. Connect your Trello account directly: coming later.
Why families outgrow Trello
Trello keeps track of the jobs. Kitty Board helps a family actually do them, and enjoy it a bit more.
Hearts on jobs
Put 1 to 5 hearts on a card or a task. Tick it off and the hearts drop into the Kitty Jar of whoever did it.
A Kitty Jar and real prizes
Save the family kitty for rewards you choose together: a film night, a lie-in, pizza on Friday.
Children's own accounts
No email address needed, just a PIN. Children get their own home, and a grown-up says OK before their hearts count.
Nudges, not nagging
A friendly paw when a job is waiting, and double hearts as a thank you.
Prizes worth saving for
Real-life rewards on a shared list. When the kitty has enough hearts, cash one in.
Help me
Turn a brain dump into a board of lists, cards and dates, on the Family plan.
What comes over, and what doesn't
Before anything comes over you see each board, like "Kitchen refit: 6 lists, 48 cards, 12 checklists, 3 comments", with what will and won't come across.
| Comes over | |
|---|---|
| Board | The name, and its background colour matched to the nearest Kitty Board colour |
| Lists and cards | Every open list and card, in the same order |
| Descriptions and due dates | Card descriptions, due dates, and whether each card was marked done |
| Labels | As categories, colours matched. Labels with no name are named after their colour, like "Green" |
| Checklists | As tasks on the card, with your ticks kept and any item due dates |
| Comments | With who wrote them and when, as a line at the top of each comment |
| Attachment links | Links on a card go into a "Links from Trello" comment |
| Card members | Matched to people in your family in Who's who? (or Nobody), so each card says who it's for |
| Custom fields and Sum Up | As card details: numbers (money when they look like money), text, dates and drop-downs, with each card's values. Sum Up numbers come too, and money adds up in each list |
| Stays in Trello | |
|---|---|
| Archived lists and cards | Left behind, so you start tidy |
| Uploaded files | Trello only lets you download them while signed in, so the card lists the files and links back to the card in Trello |
| Other Power-Ups | Not copied (Sum Up numbers do come over, as card details) |
| Stickers, votes and card covers | Not copied |
| Board background photos | The photo stays in Trello; its colour comes over |
Limits: up to 2,000 cards on each board, 100 tasks on each card and the 50 newest comments on each card, from files up to 20 MB. Trello's own export only holds your most recent activity, so very old comments may be missing.
How to move your board in 2 minutes
In Trello
- Open the board you want to move.
- Open the board menu (the ⋯ at the top right).
- Choose Print, export and share, then Export as JSON. It's free on every Trello plan. Save the file.
- Moving more than one board? Do the same for each.
In Kitty Board
- Tap New board, then Import from Trello. (It's also in Board ideas on your home as From Trello, and in Settings, Your data.)
- Tap Choose Trello files and pick one file, or several at once.
- Check what comes over for each board, and untick any you don't want.
- Who's who? Match each person on your Trello cards to someone in your family, or Nobody. You can share the board with them too.
- If you like, Add hearts to these jobs?
- Tap Bring it in. Your new board opens, imported from Trello.
Only grown-ups can import, so children never see it. More detail, step by step: Importing from Trello.
On the free plan, you choose
Free gives your family 3 boards (archived ones don't count). Bring in more Trello boards than there's room for and Kitty Board tells you how many more fit, then lets you tick the ones that matter most.
- Importing is free on every plan
- The Family plan gives you unlimited boards, so everything comes over
- Your other Trello files keep: bring them in later
Add hearts to your Trello jobs
The bit Trello never had. As your board comes in, turn on rewards and every job can earn hearts for the Kitty Jar.
- Suggested hearts: 1 for a plain card, plus 1 for every 3 tasks, up to 5
- Change any card's hearts before you bring it in
- Every card, or only the cards that are for someone
- On the free plan, one board in your family can have hearts; Family puts them on every board
Your boards are yours. Take them anywhere.
No lock-in. Open any board, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Export this board.
Kitty Board file
A .json file with the board's lists, cards, tasks, labels, comments and hearts. Bring it back with Import a Kitty Board file, on your account or someone else's.
Spreadsheet
A .csv with a row for every card and task: list, card, task, done, due, labels, hearts and person. Opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
Archived lists and cards stay behind.
Questions about moving from Trello
Is importing from Trello free?
Yes, on every plan. Exporting from Trello is free on every Trello plan too. On the free plan your family can have 3 boards, so you choose which ones to bring in; the Family plan has room for as many as you like.
Do I need to give Kitty Board my Trello password?
No. You export the board from Trello yourself and choose the file in Kitty Board, so we never see your Trello account.
Is my Trello file uploaded anywhere?
No. Kitty Board reads the file on your phone or computer. Only the boards you choose to bring in are saved, like any other board you make.
Can I bring in several boards at once?
Yes. Export each board from Trello, then pick all the files together. You see each board before anything comes over, and can untick any you don't want.
What about the photos and files on my Trello cards?
Links come over in a comment called Links from Trello. Uploaded files stay in Trello, because Trello only lets you download them while signed in. The card lists each file and links back to the Trello card so you can fetch them.
My board is huge. Will it work?
Yes: up to 2,000 cards on each board, 100 tasks on each card and the 50 newest comments on each card, from files up to 20 MB come over. Big boards come in a bit at a time with a progress bar, so nothing freezes. Trello's own export only holds your most recent activity, so very old comments may be missing.
Can I add hearts to my Trello jobs?
Yes, if you like. Turn rewards on as you bring the board in and each card gets suggested hearts: 1 for a plain card, plus 1 for every 3 tasks, up to 5. Change any of them first, and choose every card or only the cards for someone. On the free plan, one board in your family can have hearts.
Can I take my boards out of Kitty Board again?
Yes. Open any board, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Export this board: a Kitty Board file you can import again, or a spreadsheet (CSV) with a row for every card and task. Your boards are yours.
